Orange Subway is two-column WordPress theme I created for the seventh day of my WordPress theme self-challenge. The subway photo for the banner is from sxc.hu.

After trying dozens of themes for my sites I finally have one of yours on all of them! I love the colors and the clean design. Thanks for your efforts!

I love this design and have used it for my local square dancing club’s blog.

One problem- why does the formatting of my posts not show up. The bold text and bulleted lists that I created in the WordPress text editor do not display. When I view the source, the formatting is not there, only paragraphs.

Small Potato:

If you don’t want archive and category pages to show excerpts only. Open archive.php, search for the_excerpt, change it to the_content.

I’d suggest not changing because if your archive/category page matches your front page. Google might penalize you for having duplicate content.

If you don’t care about Google, make the change =).

What do I have to change to get bold text (strong?) and bullet lists to display on Orange Subway?

Small Potato:

At which part are you trying to do that?

I am trying to get bold text and bulleted lists to display in posts to the blog. I assume this is a CSS issue but I might be wrong.

When I write a post I can see my bolded text in the preview but no bullets.

When I view the post from my browser the formatted text has reverted to plain text.

Orange Subway is such a lovely design that I do not want to change to another to fix the problem.

Small Potato:

Robert,

Are you looking at the front page or one of the archive pages? I looked at your blog. It’s fine.

It’s your archive pages that doesn’t include bulleted lists, bold texts, and etc.

That’s for a reason. The archive pages call for only an excerpt to prevent the front page and the archive page from having duplicate content.

If you don’t care about that, open archive.php, change the_excerpt to the_content().

Small Potato

Thanks Small Potato, you are correct. The Blog is displaying correctly and looks absolutely fantastic. You are a genius! It’s a stunning design that suits the header image perfectly.

Hi, we have used the theme for the Atramentum website and seem to be having problems with the layout in Internet Explorer 6 (IE6; and probably lower versions too). It seems to be related to the hasLayout property which IE has, but I have used known hacks and they don’t work. Any idea?

One of the images in your sidebar is too big for the sidebar.

Hello Smallpotato,

I love this theme. Can you tell me how to change the background colors? I think I would like to change the one of the background colors to black.

It’s all in the style.css file (if you’re familiar with CSS). If you change the background color, make sure to edit the rounded corner background images too.

I am not great at CSS. Can you give me a hint as to what code I need to change to change the color of the background?

Thanks,
Fred

It’s the “e16501″ hex code under body{}. You need to change that to the hex code of the color that you want.

Thank you so much!!!

Thank You for your free themes, Small Potato.

I’d prefer reading in my native language, because my knowledge of your languange is no so well. But it was interesting! Look for some my links:

Hey Small Potatoe, Can you share with me the kindergarten version of making this theme widget ready? I would like to add a NextGen gallery and a few other buttons….Please help!

Thanks,

K.Lee

@Kesha – I can’t. There’s no kindergarten version.

Ok, thanks for the response. So can this theme be transformed to ‘widget-ready’? How do I go about updating it?
