I like this one a lot.
Where was the header photo taken?
It’s from sxc.hu - a free stock photo site.
Hello! First of all, I really liked your themes! Unfortunately I´m just starting to learn abour wordpress (I´m a Brazilian journalist and trying to put together my website), and there are LOTS of things I don´t know. I want to change things a little, and I´m reading all the help/codex/forums I can LOL, but it´s still too far away from my skills
Maybe you can help me? I already added some things: feeds agregator (I got from another theme of yours, double-header), but the “add to .. ” images are all wrong and the adding is not working, don´t know why…
I want to change the header image too (and put one with my logo and description), but I couldn´t see even the default image (leaderboard.jpg), don´t know why either…
And if it´s not too much, how could I change the blue background to a striped one similar to the http://www.whygirlzareweird.com/ ? I mean, how to create a striped background like that and where I changed it at the stylesheets?
Sorry if I´m asking too much, I´m just stuck! anyway you are doing a wonderful job here!!
Nat
Natalia,
The feeds aggregator block has an extra < */*ul*> (ignore the asterisks) after it. That’s why your Meta block is out of place.
You also need to check to see if you’re linking to the right images and if your images do exist or not.
As for the striped background, you can’t do that in css. You have to use Photoshop or another design program to make your own background image and then add that background image via css.

Hi,
I uploaded the wordpress widget file to the wp-content but I don’t see the widgets panel in Presentation. I thought this was widget ready, but I must have done something because I don’t see any. Any recommendation?
p.s. I’m *not* code savvy, fyi. i’m a writer/journalist, and am new to all this, so please be patient
thanks!
Donna,
The widget plugin goes inside the wp-content/plugins folder. Next, go to your Plugins area and activate the widget plugin. That should be it.
If you run into any more trouble, don’t worry. I’ll be here :).
thanks! for some reason the plugin widget hadn’t been appearing.. or maybe I wasn’t really looking
I’m sooo happy it’s working!
Now I’m trying to change the photo to one that is the same size. i’ve uploaded it to the image directory, but I can’t find where the original photo is listed in the code. I don’t want to have to delete it from the directory, but is that what I have to do?
Thanks (again!)
By the way - I love the Neo-Sapien design. It’s so bold and clean. Is it also widget-ready?
Also - what sites or books do you recommend for people like me who ought to learn CSS?
-Donna
(p.s. i just changed the names of the images)
I don’t know. Everything I know is self-taught and were picked up here and there. I just piece all the info together to do what I do.
If you can wait, I will be writing some wp theme tutorials soon, which will include css techniques and good css resources.
For now, check out http://css.maxdesign.com.au
great. thanks. i’m looking fwd to the tutorials and will check out that link.
in the meantime - how do I get the handyman “categories” link to link to my categories? it only lists Uncategorized for some reason…
Do you have more than one parent category or just Uncategorized and a list of categories below it?
You can check Handy Man’s preview page. It lists all of my categories.
Uncategorized with a list of categories beneath. No parent categories set now.
Are you still seeing only one category?
yup, sadly…
Ok. open the sidebar.php file. Find wp_list_cats(). Within those parentheses, find hierarchial=0. Right after the 0 add &children=1.
Make sure that you include the & sign.
thanks… but that didn’t change it. not sure why. i looked at it in flock, firefox and ie just to see if that was the problem..
this is what it looks like now:
(i also did it with a space between the 0 and the &)
if you email me, i can send you the link in case you want to bother checking it out. i’m just not allowed to publicize the link b/c it’s not launched yet… (it’ll be a collectively-written city-guide type site)
Hi,
The page links are not displaying in the order I’ve set using the Page Order setting (which I’ve done successfully with other themes). They do display correctly in the Manage Page section. Can this fixed and if so how?
Thank you in advance.
Mark
hi !
I’m trying to add a new column (sidebar) to this theme and i really can’t seem to find how to do it..
I suppose i must create a sidebar2.php
but where shall i call it ?
i’ve tried to do it in the css
but i figure it has to be added to some php agregating page ?
i looked in index.php / single.php / browse.php / page.php
but i can’t seem to find where to “announce” the page sidebar2.php
Any help would be extremely appreciated
thank you in advance !
and VV la libre entre-aide !
I really like the theme. I’m not really CSS literate so I’m wondering how I change the blue background color to another solid color.
Thanks.
Your website has been a great inspiration in revitalizing my blog.
hi i was wondering how do i actually upload it to make it my current theme bcoz i love tis theme.
- upload it to wp-content/themes/
- login into your administration panel
- click on presentation
- look for Handy Man, click on it.
- go back to your blog’s front page, refresh
Hi, love the theme. I’m using it for my podcast. Unfortunately, I must have broken something in it, because there is no “next” or “previous” link at the bottom of any of the pages. Is there any way to fix this. What could be missing? I’d hate to have to adjust so that there are dozens of posts on each page, because as of now, I can’t navigate pages at all. Thanks for any help.
Your previous and next links do work on the single post view. It’s just the front page that’s not working?
What version of WordPress are you using and what modifications have you made?
Used your theme for a jumping off into a heavily revised design. Got it tweaked and running well in so far as the front (index) page goes. But when I use the standard WordPress pages and prevous/next links, it reverts back to the index page. Any clues? Thank you in advance.
What standard pages are you talking about? Like the About page?
Yes, the about page is one. Also the blog archives page I created. Also, the next/previous actions don’t work.
On pages like About, you’re not suppose to see next and previous links because there is no next or previous page of About.
Pages like About is separate from the regular posts.
hi small, i like your theme, but i went crazy to fix the following problem:
so i generate a new page and look on top (over the pic) an new button! but when i klick this button=page not found. please give me an idea!! thanx a lot
great job
Hi,
Is there no way we can change the image behind the main.jpg from red to something else?
The css file is a mystery, or was it ment to be in the first place?
The theme is fantastic but i feel kind of handcuffed with the color.
if the color can’t be changed, it would have been nice to have a disclaimer before someone downloads it and slowly loses their mind trying to find out how to change it.
Can anyone help?
Thanks
i believe you’re commenting on the wrong theme Reid. it sounds like you’re using the Neo-Sapien theme, not Handy Man.
If you want to change the background color behind main.jpg then look for main.jpg in the style.css file and see what you can tweak to change the background color. easy :).
How can I customize the form buttons in this theme? This has been a particular problem when I customize the side bar as even searchform.php seems unresponsive.
Also, I can’t seem to make any changes to the background color of the post entries.
Thanks and thanks for the great theme.
That depends on whether you are using widgets. If you’re using search widget, customize for that. Look up a tutorial on how to customize form buttons first.
Style.css handles all the colors. Look for the post background color in that file.
Hello potato, thank you for a nice theme.
I have a little problem with the layout. Can you look at my website a bit though it’s written in Vietnamese? The homepage’s layout looks fine until I navigate through the categories. Now the sidebar (obar in your css) jumps below the maincolumn (maincol). I’ve tried to change the widths of the container, maincol, obar but nothing improved. If it were the problem from the widths it would cause the same effect to the homepage.
For example
http://www.quocthinh.com/index.php/category/baiviet
Can you help me?
That’s ok. I can read Vietnamese
It looks like the WP-PageNavi plugin is causing the problem.
Oh really, if you are not from Vietnam but still can manage its language I bet you could earn a lot of money :-). A Canadian guy intended to visit VN for 10 days and decided to learn the language. He’s got stuck there for few years and become a famous MC for the biggest broadcast company. Money and chicks came after that :-))
Actually, the problem came right after I’d installed the theme, 2 months ago I think. The NaviPage was installed last night while waiting for your response. I tried to remove the Navipage but nothing changed.
I have seen some topics in your forum relating to this issue but it seems that the problem has not been solved yet. The weird thing in my case is that it just appears when going through the categories or archives while the front page looks OK.
Got it fixed in the end. I made a clean installation and it works. It might have been caused by a redundant tag somewhere.
Hi there. Thanks for this theme. I’ve been eyeballing it for a while and have only recently found the right site for me to use it on. I’m really excited!
One issue I’m having, though: I’d like to use a background image with the theme but changing the “background:” property of the body isn’t registering on my site for some reason. Is there something else covering up the background that I’m not seeing somewhere? I can change the color of the background, but I can’t get images to show up.
Any tips?
Cheers,
Will
Hello,
I just wanted to say that this theme is great! I just installed it and hacked it up a little for my colors and tastes and it’s wonderful!
I’m sorry to bother you but is it typical for the comment pages to look like this when there is limited text and lots of pictures?
