This theme is one of my moments of weakness screaming at the top of its lungs to expose itself. I honestly did not have any time to create a theme, today. That’s why I’ve expanded my website’s current theme to three column and releasing it as its own theme. The fact that it’s not even widget-ready goes to show how little time I actually have. (I’m rushing because I need to move WPDesigner to a new server by tonight.)
Hey, best of luck to you in your hosting issues. My old host decided to close shop while their servers were down, so you can imagine how pissed I was that I couldn’t get a recent backup of my database. At least I was able to get a copy of my recent posts from Yahoo!’s cache, but my most recent comments were gone.
If things don’t work out with your current host, might I recommend ANHosting.com. They’re owned by the more-famous midPhase, but are cheaper. I’ve only had hosting with AN for a few weeks, but my site’s not gone down yet and their support is pretty quick. Thanks Dean, but I’m looking for a host with more than just shared hosting. At some point, I’ll need a dedicated server. But right now, I need a reliable host that can withstand Digg-like traffic.
WPD is getting a little above 1000-uniques/day. If it’s slowing down now, there’s no way it can handle being dugg or bookmarked on del.icio.us.
What host are you currently with? You could probably get away with a VPS as opposed to going with a dedicated server, as I doubt you’ll really have that much traffic to end up hogging a shared server.
With a VPS you’ll have your own dedicated resources, so serverload would just be your applications, etc. Obviously other VPS on the server could conflict it at some point, but generally it’s not much of an issue.
Surpasshosting.com is quite great though.
I’m with Eleven2.com, paying $34/month to manage multiple sites on a reseller plan.
I expect WPD to do about 30,000 uniques for this month (even though it’s February). And traffic is only going to increase as I expand my site’s features and content.
Of course, I can’t get everything with my kind of budget.
I don’t know much about the technical stuff to counter the high traffic effect so my mind set is go for cheap and divide up my sites or something expensive to solve my problem once and for all.
I’m not too interested in VPS because I know that I’ll need a dedicated server sooner or later.
Surpasshosting.com’s 2TB offer is tempting, but you never know until WPD actually gets on their server so Surpass just looks like any other host to me right now.

1000 uniques/a day it’s not that much, so if your host can’t handle that, it’s probably a good idea to switch to a new one.
Anyway, you have some options if you are worried about performance, for instance, WP-Cache or even LightPress, optimize your database, don’t use Textile 2, etc.
If you’re worried about bandwidth and you’re producing Open Source software, you could start a Google Code or Sourceforge project and host your files there.
Moving to another webhost it’s a good option, of course, but it takes soooo much work to get things working flawlessly
Exactly, moving is fine with me, but I’m definitely not looking forward to fixing and double checking. (I’ll check out WP-Cache.)
One of my websites uses vBulletin for its message board and I’m not looking forward to moving that either :).
I was going to move to a different host, split my websites into smaller amounts so I could host them on shared hosting, but finally decided not to do that and to hold on a little longer for better hosting.
I wanna make one move and that is to a dedicated server.
