Dark is functional, flexible, well-designed, but still generic enough for you to customize and also comes with plugin support. The only drawback is it’s not widget-ready.
The recent releases of high quality themes like Dark and iTheme are refreshing. Together, Dark and iTheme are a sign of high quality themes on the rise. They also prove what I’ve been saying, “…one great theme is better than ten average themes.”
Well, at least, one great theme will get you ten times, if not twenty times, the reward of an average theme. If you’re a WordPress designer, regardless of what the intention behind your contribution to the community is, producing high quality themes should be your main focus.
A reward of a theme like Dark or iTheme is undoubtedly much greater than the $40-$60 that you get for running sponsored links on an average theme.

This is a best theme for me.
I love the idea behind this theme, but the colors are terrible.
Even if it is easy to customize, so much will have to be changed.
I thought quality designers knew to stay away from bright colors?

I hate widget ready themes. Half the time I have to remove it for projects that I do. I’d rather theme designers just create two sidebar templates, one with and one without widget capabilities.
Amy : but the colors are terrible?
What is the best colors?
I like the theme overall, but I don’t like the way that the left meta column makes that part of the page look empty. I think the dark blue background of the main part of the theme should stretch over the entire page to incorporate the meta column - but maybe that’s just me. In any event, it’s very stylish and the layout is good overall.
One more thing, @ Brian: Why do you hate widget ready themes? If you don’t use widgets, just delete the widget code, right? I don’t see why themers would need to make two versions of their sidebar template when you, who would be working with the code directly, would be able to easily delete the widget code, if you felt so inclined, or simply ignore it.
Lovely colors. I really like the whole.
The unusual design with more-then-three columns is also very good.
The only problem I have with it is the default text and link colors.
I don’t like the default link colors that much either. I like the meta stuff on the side of the post, but not on the side of the comments. Other than that, I think it’s one of the best themes I’ve seen (that’s besides yours SP, of course).
Its just a personal irritation. I hate having to remove unneeded code, especially since half the theme designers could have spent more time making proper code, clear commenting and good whitespace, rather than “widgetizing”.
Keep in mind its a personal opinion. And I so rarely use themes, except if a client likes the basic design of something they’ve come across.
I agree if you mean the text and the background. There is poor contrast between the two and it makes reading a bit difficult. The basic color scheme is pleasant, but the blue on blue is not ideal.
Other functional visual issues. Search box is not labeled. And some might miss it. I agree on the link color, its not immediately obvious its a link. I’m one who firmly believes a bottom border or underline should be present to distinguish text. The default link style is underlined by default for a reason. The meta info is not immediately identifiable as linked to the post. I believe this could be a text color issue as well.
I agree about the colours - not the best. But the overall layout is very clever and innovative and the left bar is awesome!
Oh, and I agree with SP about one great theme vs 10 average themes. This theme and the recent release of iTheme, as well as BloggingPro’s theme, has definitely raised the bar for all WP designers out there.
For me the ideal colors is blue and jellow.
I downloaded this theme. I don’t know if I’m gonna use it tho. Unless it’s for my blogging blog. xD But it is a nice theme.
