Plugins That Powers Wpdesigner

Wpdesigner.com actually uses the following plugins:

Ajax Comments 2.0
Allow your users to post a comment without reloading the page.

Probably one of the best ways you could spice up your WordPress Blog with AJAX; readers love it! Must see for yourself.

Akismet
This plugin filters spam comments. To install it, you need an API key; and to get the API key, you need a WordPress.com account.

Akismet has protected your site from 18,799 spam comments.

Author Highlight
Allows you to add a unique style to comments made by you, the blog author. This plugin is easy to install, practical, and important, especially important for this blog. It makes it easier for readers to easily spot my comments for things like answers to tutorial questions.

Clean Options

Finds orphaned options and allows for their removal from the wp_options table.

It’s good for cleaning up your blog after removing unwanted plugins.

Comment License
I use this to clarify how I handle comments posted on this blog.

By submitting a comment here you grant this site a perpetual license to reproduce your words and name/web site in attribution. Inappropriate comments will be removed at my discretion.

Executable PHP Widget
Use this for activating sidebar widget plugins.

Feedburner Feed Replacement
Feedburner has taken over the development of this plugin and renamed it to Feedsmith. It redirects all your subscribers to using your feed from Feedburner so you could keep track of the actual number of subscribers.

Live
This is the only toy on my plugins list. You get to watch the actions on your blog, live.

MyAvatars
Put a face to your blog commenters (those that have an account on MyBlogLog).

Optimal Title
Instead of the default title structure, for example, Wpdesigner > About, this plugin switches it around to About > Wpdesigner. It’s good for search engine optimization (SEO) reasons.

Preview Frame
Due to the recent changes in WordPress 2.2, use this plugin to bring back the preview frame while your drafting a post.

RSS Feed Signature
I use this plugin to tag all my posts with a copyright message and a link back Wpdesigner.com. It’s a nice way to protect your content and piggyback splogs (spam blogs) for more traffic.

runPHP
Allows you to use PHP code within your posts.

Subscribe To Comments
This one lets readers subscribe to comments and follow the conversation through email notifications.

WordPress Download Monitor
I use this to keep track of WordPress theme downloads.

WP-Polls
This comes with a sidebar widget. Run polls within your posts or in the sidebar.

At this point, it’s very time consuming to put together a top plugins list because there are so many plugins out there. That’s why I chose to put together a list for plugins that I actually use.

What works for one blog doesn’t necessarily work for another. That’s why it’s important to test the plugins for yourself.

For me, I’m very picky. If it’s hard to install or hard to uninstall, I wouldn’t bother with it in the first place. Also, I wouldn’t install plugins that need extensive integrations or theme modifications several months after launching a blog. If I ever need a plugin like that, I would decide for sure before I launch my blog.

Great list of plug-ins, will have to try some of these out. I’m curious if the Live plug-in slows down your site? That would be my ownly concern.

Edwin:

Also, I just tried your Ajax comment form, pretty nice. I was wondering how does this work with Akismet? When I submit a comment it looks like the poster shows up right away but the comment itself is missing until you refresh the page.

That’s a recent problem that I don’t know how to fix. The comment suppose to show up without another refresh.

It still works with Akismet by checking the comments before they get posted. Although you don’t have to reload the page, the comment posting isn’t automatic.

Hi Potato, thanks for providing the list - I’ve found some pretty interesting sounding plugins you’ve mentioned (e.g. Ajax comments, Author Highlight, Clean Options and RSS Feed Signature). Definitely going to try some of these out.

Just for the statistics which plugins I’m using as well: Akismet, Live, WP Download Monitor, Subscribe to comments and Feedburner Feed Replacement.

And here are some plugins which I use and find really useful: What would Seth Godin do, WP-digg style paginator, Democracy poll plugin (Ajax), Related Posts, Popularity Contest, SRG Clean Archives, WordPress Duplicate Content Cure (SEO) and WP-PostRatings (Ajax)

I wanted to use related posts, but have been too lazy to make do a sleek integration for it so it wouldn’t clutter up the posts.

Right now, I’m looking into What Would Seth Godin Do.

Great list, there are a few that I wasn’t aware of and am going to try out!

Thanks!

potato, thanks for doing this - I will be checking out a few of the mentioned with which I’m not familiar

Edwin:

I also like the icons, although I don’t have an account on that service so my icon shows up as a broken image on here.

@Brian - No problem. Any other relevant topics you want me write about, suggest it here or on the forums :).

@Edwin - Get an account and upload an avatar!

Very Great list!

I’ve been wondering how blog authors were getting their comments to show up differently! I’ve seen it on quite a few sites and it looks pretty darn handy, especially for sites that get a lot of comments.

Very useful list. I’m using Exec-PHP instead of runPHP on http://www.libriefilm.com.

For me another good plugin is Breukie’s Categories Widget (http://www.arnoldbreukhoven.nl/2007/05/breukies-categories-widget-for-wordpress)

ok, very useful list,I’m going to try it! Thanks

Very nice, did not know most of them. Thanks for sharing:)

i wanted to use the ajax comments but i get a few spammers on the blog and that’ll probably make it easier for them, i might use the poll later tho, on one of my newest blogs

Plugin lists, always as fascinating. Thanks for showing us the list. Many bloggers usually recommend some plugins that they themselves don’t use, I think that’s fooling the public. You are not one of these obviously; walk the walk as they say.

Good list! How did you set up the comments like this? I like it alot.

I customized the default comments template, used alternating CSS background colors, and installed the Author Highlight plugin to highlight comments made by me.

Great list. Especially the author highlight plugin. I had seen that on other blogs but assumed it was in the CSS. But took it another step because I noticed that you have an image included as well as a color.

Thankx.
