Jello Wala Mello WordPress Theme

Jello-Wala-Mello is a news / magazine-styled WordPress theme created for multi-media sites. It requires WordPress 2.3 to work properly.
This theme uses the optional excerpt and two custom fields: Thumbnail, and Thumbnail Full (case sensitive).The values of Thumbnail and Thumbnail Full should be the addresses of the images attached to each post. Thumbnail is for the small image and Thumbnail Full is for the bigger one. Learn how to use WordPress image uploader and custom fields.
At least, make sure the first ten entries of your blog use those custom fields and have optional excerpts. Ideally, you want to use this for a new blog as the need for two images and an optional excerpt for each entry is a bit of work for established blogs with hundreds of entries.
However, you can easily tweak it for an established blog with many entries, if you know how that is. (Another version will be created for established blogs to easily adopt this theme.)

Installation / Activation
- Upload this folder to your themes folder at: wp-content/themes
- Log into WordPress administration and click on “Presentation”
- Look for the Jello-Wala-Mello image and click on it to install / activate this theme
- Go back to your blog’s front page and refresh / reload it

Usage
- By default, the second horizontal menu displays only three category links to prevent over-loading that second menu with too many links. To add more category links: open header.php and find wp_list_categories(’hierarchical=0&title_li=&include=1,2,3′). 1, 2, and 3 are examples. Add your own category ID numbers to add more category links to that menu.
- Use the ads-300×250.php file for advertisments.
- To replace the ads with a list of your most popular content links: open index.php, look for ads-300×250.php, and change it to domtab.php. Modify the domtab.php file to fill in your own list of links.

Licenses and Credits
- Images and the style.css file are released under Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 3.0. Also, some images are modified icons of the FamFamFam Silk Icons set. FamFamFam Silk Icons are released under Creative Commons Attribution 2.5.
- PHP template files are released under GPL.
- The domtab.js Javascript file was created by Christian Heilmann of OnlineTools.org. You may not modify or resell Domtab without written consent from Christian Heilmann.

I’m really confused about the Thumbnail / Full Thumbnail thing. I’ve been messing around for the past hour trying to get this to work. I’m typing ‘Thumbnail’ in the ‘Key’ field and the image source url in the ‘Value’ form. Then I save and check the homepage, nothing. Is my image supposed to appear where it says ‘Hello world! thumbnail’?
I’m probably missing something really obvious, but I would appreciate if you could break it down a bit more for me. Thanks again for the awesome theme, I’m just loving it!

I figured it out after some experimenting… these thumbnails are a really cool feature. I love how you can display a different thumbnail for each post without actually publishing it within the post… you’re a genious!

They need to be readl category IDs. If you don’t have a category #4 then adding 4 to 1,2, and 3 will do nothing.
Very nice addition to the Wordpress theme collection. We really need more themes like this, high quality and sponsor-less. Bravo!
Word of warning about your Digg link. Digg will usually puts a cap on sites that have stop self-promote their ‘digg effect’. If I were you, I’d integrate the digg it plugin and just mention it to users without the hyperlink.

Seth - The preview screenshots are not from a live demo. They’re Photoshop images. Some of the stuff on the original design weren’t included with this initial release.
Is there a way to show the full post at the top of the screen? Or/and take away the ad box.. so the content can strech to the right ?

Noticed some strange behaviour, when i post a comment as the admin, it appears with its meta under the meta links in the right sidebar, but on refreshing it goes to where it should be.

Great theme! Thanks. I’m having a slight problem. as i installed fresh out the box and when i view the page, the sidebar comes up blank and all of the xhtml isnt finished. it stops at “filed under” and therefore doesnt call the sidebar or footer.
I noticed that Angled Reviews doesnt have a problem. I have not edited the template at all.
I am using WP 2.2.2, not 2.2.3, so not sure if that matters. I did edit the source ot remove the call to the_tags, as that’s where it was breaking. I removed that in the main index as well as the single post php files. Hope that helps.

My one suggestion is that you should put in an if statement to make sure the custom field variable is not empty.
This way it doesn’t look so strange when no image is used.

I found my problem. My main-menu had to much elements and was to wide.
First off just want to say that I love this theme…Thanks for the hard work.
I’ve been playing around with it for a bit and I’m having a problem using WP 2.3. When I write a new page, the content of the page does not appear when I publish. The page link is created in the header just fine, and the page loads fine, except the content does not appear.
Any idea to what may be the problem?

I have configured the site to have a page as homepage, and another page for the blog posts. Is it possible to make the homepage the way that the blog index page is set now, with the 3 ‘layers’ and different blocks?

I noticed that you used the
in your header to list categories.
I want to customize the permanent link option, using:
/%category%/%postname%/ for the post title.
Do you know if is it possible to use categories without having to list the category slug when calling them in the header menu or from the post ?

permalink structure doesn’t matter. wp_list_categories will print what you’ve selected for permalink structure

I’ m not sure this is perfectly clear…
the wp_list_category is going to print something like:
domainname.com/CATEGORY/categoryname/postname
i want to remove the slug “category” to leave only the categoryname and postname.
Using the /%category%/%postname%/ option in the permanent link menu,
the post link are printed this way:
domainname.com/categoryname/postname
But when you list them using the wp_list_category it ADD the category slug.
I would like to remove it when automatically listing the category.

Congratulations on this wonderful design. Since this is a magazine style design, wouldn’t each magazine/blog want their own unique logo in it ?
I was wondering if you could add a small snippet up there, that would allow new users to replace the normal text with a pre-defined logo image.

Ehab - The title area is already structure that way. You can simply give that area a background image, which would be your logo.

Hi SP,
trying a similar theme effect on my website with the post excerpts appearing next to each other like a news column. However when the first one is longer than the second the third post does not fit nicely but misses the first column.

Hi! I just installed this theme for our blog, and it’s absolutely perfect for our usage. However there is one slight problem; the posts won’t categorize with your theme. With any of the default themes the categories show up under each post, but with Jello Wala Mello it says “no categories”.

This looks like an awful bite of Kineda without any credit in the post or theme.

I suggest you add a funciton to DISABLE thumbnail if no images is done.
It would be better than blank image!

Why do you bother with 2 thumbnail .?…
ONE would be REALLY SIMPLER and as the 1st article is not so BIG we dont need a BIGGER THUMB
AGAIN put a loop to show the thumb FULL only if there is one if not use the THUMB and if nothing dont show a image !!
Add some easy cutomization (color and image header) and you make the BEST FRONT News worpress theme EVER )=)

Chimaera - I couldn’t help her solve that problem because I couldn’t duplicate that bug. I’ve tested my own blog install and other blogs online (using this theme). Not every blog using JWM is having this problem.

Is there a way to define which posts can show up in the feature posts area. The default is to just have the most recent. I’d like to be able to assign a certain post to a “feature” category, and only that post will show up there.
