Gluttony WordPress Theme

This is a beta release for Gluttony. Gluttony is a two-column, widget-ready, rounded-corners WordPress theme. It’s the sixth theme of the Seven Deadly Sins series to be released. Preview This Theme.
Orignally, I wanted to integrate Javascript in order to create an expandable and collapsible food menu layout. But after several tries with several different scripts, it didn’t work out that way. Therefore, this beta-release (version 0.1) does not include any Javascript. In the future, the official version 1 will include the Javascript to add the expandable and collapsible posts feature.
If you can help me make that happen, please leave a comment or contact me. Overall, this theme is work in progress and there’s a lot left to do.

Known Issues
- The sidebar styles are not compatible with the sidebar Tag Cloud widget.
License and Credits
To prepare for unknown add-ons and external features, Gluttony is released under the Creative Commons Attribution 3.0 license, not the GPL license.
The top tabs are a bit to “bevelled” looking. Decent theme apart from that though. Preferably a bit more graphical either in more images or color.
You’re definitely improving as a designer though, good job.

Once again nice theme which has it’s own special layout. Looking forward to the final SP. Have you ever tried using Spiffy corners CSS, rounded corners? It doesn’t require any images.
Why do you call this theme Gluttony SP? Is it because it’s a food menu?

Nur – Yep, it’s because the posts layout is a food menu.

Small Potato
I am modifying the theme and trying to add some things to it in my computer.
The Blockquote and the Code entries appear almost same as the content. I scanned the css but could not find anything there.
How can I add margin and change the background of the code and blockquote entries ?

Btw, I’ve found the same problem with Tag Cloud in small width sidebar. There is widget_tag_cloud class by default from the widget plugin, but still confuse what to styling then.
Perhaps the Tag Cloud should displayed in “special extra width sidebar” (min. 500px?)?

I have added the page navigation though.
I am going to put a small author-bio type space under the header. After that, a placeholder for asides.
Then, i would display at most 2 posts. thus, creating a Home Page – and technically asking my browsers to Browse the rest of the site

First of all, thank you for this great theme! I was browsing the net for days looking for a theme that could match with my expectations, and I couldn’t find anything satisfying… But that was before wpdesigner.com!
I’ve downloaded Gluttony, and begun to look in the code in order to customize it for my needs, but I have a small problem.. I’d like to display every category on the top of the page, where you have every page displyed so far… So I replaced wp_list_pages by wp_list_categories in the code of every file, but the CSS options do not work anymore… When I am browsing one of ma categories, the backgroundof the selected category does not get white… Somebody can help me to change that?

wp_list_pages output “current_page_item” for the current page. I use that to highlight the relative tab. with wp_list_categories, you can’t do that unless you hard code every category link.

When the sidebar widgets is turned on and Text widget is used, the background from the text content is lost. Looks awkward.
I was referring to this problem in the forum earlier as well.
I am not a fan of widgets, but a lot of people out there are.
Thanks Nathan – Alex Cragg helped me out the mootools accordion, but it spit back some usability issues. I’ll look into a css-only expandable post listing.
Ehab – Use UL tags within the text widget and you should be fine.

Attempting to use, but the theme is not showing up on my page. It displays the background image and the search button, but nothing else. New at WP, not much experience with it. Can you point me in the right direction? Please ignore if this request is outside of the scope of this comment box.

It’s pretty close Gluttony mod, but people are allowed to do that. As for the Gluttony theme, no updates yet. I’m busy designing new themes.

Looking at using this theme, but have two problems at the moment. The bottom of the page doesnt look right because it is finished off square as opposed to rounded like the top, is this intentional?
And also, all the images are stripped out when displaying a category/archive… is there a fix for this?
searn – the archive displays excerpts only. go to archive.php and change the_excerpt to the_content if you like.
as for the bottom, it isn’t supposed to be squared.

I can’t seem to get my blogroll to display. Should it display in the sidebar, and if so, how to get it there?
I have no clue what’s wrong with your blog. Are you using widgets? Are you activating the blogroll widget?

There is a blogroll page where I can add links. When I click Update, nothing happens. At the Widgets page, there is no blogroll. If this should be in the sidebar, or wherever, how can I copy the correct code into that page? Thanks.
The blogroll displays in the sidebar by default for the Gluttony theme. You’re having widgets problem.
Adding links to the blogroll page has nothing to do with adding it to the sidebar.
At the widgets page, find the “Links” widget and drag it to the sidebar widgets listing above it, then Save.
I can’t help you beyond that. If you’re still having trouble, it’s best to bring it to the WordPress.org forums.

You’ll need to learn how to modify the wp_list_pages tag in order to exclude some page links. Look on WordPress.org

I’m reading your tutorial for making my own theme someday because i believe it is much easier to work on something you make “with your own hands” than trying to modify something other people do, like you said about the Options Theme beeing similar to Revolution.
I congratulate you ’cause i really like the way you share your knowledge to people like me that are trying to improve in the design aspect of wordpress. I’m using WP in 2 other friends sites so i hope to make things better every day.

Good News! The third column is working like wonder. I had to smash my head over the keyboard a couple of times cause i wasn’t seein that the content div had a menu on top, so thath was why I couldn’t get the graphics right the first place.
I’m doing some mayor changes, so when it is ready i’ll show you how it’s going on.

I’ve been thinking about your theme and i got some ideas to improve it. I hope they don’t break it xD
Maybe they are a bit radical but i know that if is for the best it might become some sort of mag-style
The tabbed menu changed to a DOMtabs keeping only the first tab with some Featured post or similar. The next tabs with the best of (SM Style
and recent comments.
I removed the top “gluttony” banner and with the third column available, i manage to move the categories to the right, put the archives list as a dropdown to have less cluttering, and on the left sidebar placed my site logo and blogroll.
I was thinking of placing there a “Feevy” widget to have the most recent post of my friends sites or whatever.
I’m a move quotes fan so im trying to put a twitter kinda plug to add them on the top side (above the DOMtabs that will be there).
The mag style maybe works using single categories with one or 2 posts only per div, so instead of displaying all sorts of thins, only the ones i wanted.
Well that’s for now. I’ll keep you up to date later.

I’m a newb to wordpress and I’m setting up a nice blog using your theme.
I would like to thank you for your resources and tips, etc – I’ve made heads and tales of CSS – which has been a long time goal of mine. And your theme is right up my alley. I do want to alter a few things and I’m gonna break stuff along the way.
But a couple of things are bugging me:
1. I’m aware of the tag cloud not working properly in terms of formatting – are you planning a fix for this?
2. The Plain text widget also doesn’t work for me. The header formats right, but the actual text I insert doesn’t?!?!
3. I’ve added the Meta:Control Panel to my side bar. How on earth do I remove the link to WordPress.org?!?!?!?!
Where do I look or what files can I poke into to start playing with that? Cause I want to add a login form in the sidebar.
Either way, when I sort out a host and upload my site, I will share it with you guys!!! Great Work!

I’m using this for my already established blog, really like the clean lines and feel of it. Click my name to see what I’ve done / doing with it.
Two things – the RSS “button” at the top left doesn’t really fit, I’d like to see it integrated a bit better. Also, the site is lacking a proper footer, something I think is really important. I may try to build one myself, but if you are continuing to make improvements to this, pleaes consider a footer w/ some content in it.
