Graphic Designing

Below is the design I’ve been working on. (See previous versions.) Today was the first time I created and integrated original graphics. Although it might seem amateurish to the trained eyes, the INCOMPLETE piece below is significant (for me) because I’m an XHTML and CSS coder, not a graphic designer.
The header is HUGE at this point because I’m not finished with the illustration. Once it’s finished, I’ll shorten the header or green area to a more… reasonable height.
What I have in mind for the illustration is a car driving toward the top right corner of the layout with smoke floating toward the top left corner, which leads to the big cloud or logo. The background below the car layer would be some roads, hills, maybe the HOLLYWOOD sign, and some buildings.
As if graphic design isn’t enough frustration, trying to convincingly mix several styles into one design during my first crack at graphics design isn’t helping. Usually, graphics designers, like web designers and coders, have collected resources like brushes, textures, vectors, and etcetera to speed up the graphic design process. Me, I’m trying to do all of it the first time around and mix several styles at the same time, which are definitely not… smart practices.

I like first version better.
I’m not really sure that i like the look of what your doing in this one. The idea yes is good, but not the look. If your going to expand into a different type of graphic design for this theme it may pay to do what everyone does and work on something until perfection before viewing to the public. Many people I’m sure wouldn’t see this as something that would be of interest to them because this isn’t a completed product.
That’s my 2 cents for today

If you can’t illustrate them yourself, you could always get them from iStockPhoto.com, or even VectorStock.com, there’s tons of professional vector illustrations on those websites.
Design is looking real nice, by the way, love the header background.
I really love the previous version; It was much cleaner and chic. The second sidebar on the left was fresh too. When will it be available?

I would agree with Anto. The first version is much better. This one is more to a personal blog design, not really for gossip. It’s just my opinion. You are doing great jobs, as always

I agree with Andra. The previously design was much better.. this new one, I don’t like too much.
I think since its an unfinished design, we can’t make any real critique. However its off from SP usual designs. Which is a good thing. I’d like to see something different and fun from SP. I look forward to see where this goes.
